Angel Investor Pitch Showcase
[WINTHROP, ME, April 2018] Local small business Alba-Technic, LLC has been selected to present at the Angel Capital Association (ACA)’s annual Summit being held in Boston, Massachusetts from April 18th through April 20th. The 2018 ACA Summit is the largest professional development event in the world for angel investors. Alba-Technic is one of only twenty-four companies selected to present in the ACA’s Innovation Showcase.
The ACA Summit connects innovative small businesses with ‘angel investors’ (individuals who support up to 90% of outside equity raised by startups) through networking opportunities and business pitch presentations. In addition to face-to-face networking with over 700 investors in attendance, Alba-Technic will present a two-minute pitch called a “teaser” throughout the event. Attendees will then vote on their favorite teaser, with winners being announced at the Thursday night “Venture Bucks” hour.
Alba-Technic was recently awarded a $225,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and was invited to participate in the ACA Summit based on their innovative personal impact protection products with patented shock-absorbing composite (EVO2™)., Alba-Technic was nominated by an ACA sponsor – the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is just one of four NIH sponsored companies.
According to Jim Ferguson, CEO and Co-Founder of Alba-Technic, the company was nominated by M-D Kerns at the National Institute on Aging. The nomination was due to Alba-Technic’s premier product; the SMARTY® personal impact protection headgear that will mitigate the impact forces associated with a fall thereby reducing the severity of Traumatic Brain Injuries.“As we all know,” asserts Ferguson, “Traumatic Brain Injury has a long-term impact on people’s lives and is very costly as well. Our patented EVO2™ impact resistance system can reduce the forces associated with a fall. All of our work with NIH and NSF has allowed us to develop the SMARTY and we will take advantage of the Summit and one-on-one networking meetings with investors and strategic partners to finance market entry of the SMARTY, position us for growth and provide those susceptible to falling with affordable and non-stigmatizing head protection.”
To date, Alba-Technic has received four Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), and last year was a Head Health Challenge III awardee. Through these grant awards and potential angel investments, Alba-Technic will continue to fuel the local economy as more top-of-the-line injury prevention products are brought to the public. This ACA Summit is the company’s latest opportunity for continued expansion and will connect Alba-Technic with passionate investors who share the same vision.
